Proventia Network Active Bypass

Add maximum availability to maximum network security

Service detail
The IBM Proventia® Network Active Bypass offers “failure case” protection to ensure the availability of a network protected by IBM Proventia Network Intrusion Prevention Systems. If the Proventia Network IPS appliance fails for any reason, the bypass is designed to ensure that the network remains functional.

Highlights
Maximizes network availability by minimizing "time to failover"
Enables uninterrupted access to applications by maintaining link state during bypass operations
Powers high availability network IPS deployments
Simplifies troubleshooting with SNMP trap support and e-mail support
Supports up to four network segments in any combination of Copper, MM Fiber and SM fiber
  • Enables simple installation with a self-generating heartbeat, that eliminates the need for drivers or additional software installation
  • Offers copper-to-fiber conversion capability to reduce cost of fiber optics support
  • Supports 10/100/1000 base, 1 Gigabit, TX (Copper), SX (Multimode) & LX (Single mode)

IBM enables businesses to have maximum network security and minimize downtime

Business managers and IT professionals must constantly strive to maximize network security—to protect critical data and applications, and to comply with industry and regulatory mandates. Simultaneously, they must also strive for 100 percent network uptime to ensure competitive, uninterrupted business operations. Their concern: by improving security with inline appliances, they are potentially introducing new points of failure into the network.

IBM makes it possible to maximize both network security and availability by complementing IBM Proventia® Network Intrusion Prevention Systems with the IBM Proventia Network Active Bypass. If the IPS appliance fails for any reason, the bypass is designed to ensure the network remains functional and users have unimpeded access to important applications. Designed for fast, simple deployment, the Proventia Network Active Bypass has extensive management capabilities and allows flexibility by supporting four independent interface segments in various combinations.

Features

  • Bypass activates without changing link state
  • Provides power loss bypass
  • User can force the IPS into bypass without causing network outage
  • Segments are segregated, so if one segment goes into bypass all other segments are unaffected
  • Configurable heartbeat allows use of IPS heartbeat via USB, the bypass internal heartbeat or link state change

Benefits

  • Network remains available, and users’ communications with applications and servers is uninterrupted
  • Blackouts don’t result in network downtime
  • Simplified maintenance and operation, including inserting or removing the IPS device
  • Segment by segment protection
  • Users configure the bypass based on specific requirements for heartbeats and failover
