Softek Transparent Data Migration Facility (TDMF) z/OS is an industry-leading, host-based software solution for data migration, designed for data centers with multiple system images and the need for continuous application availability, and provides local or distance migration with no downtime required.
Highlights
Supports virtually any storage vendor's hardware and in multi-vendor environments
Enables control over I/O rate and CPU overhead to maintain application performance and service levels
Provides Dynamic Swap to allow application availability during the switch to new storage
Designed to ensure data integrity and protection
Speeds migrations with Full-Speed Copy feature
Automates migration sessions
Supports IBM z/OS environments
Standardizes data migration methodology with proven, repeatable practices to plan, move and validate migrations
Available in the form of a software license, a project service engagement or an element of a managed service agreement
TDMF z/OS provides flexible pacing options to help maintain application performance levels throughout the migration process – even during busy periods – so you can perform migrations during normal business hours.
Feature
Function
Benefit
Global migration via TCP/IP
Enables network migration
Optimizes flexibility and allows for remote data migration
Dynamic Swap
Automatically directs I/O to a new location after data replication completes
Allows data migration without disruption
Dynamic pacing/throttling
Migration rates change automatically
Helps minimize effect on application performance
Auto operations interface
Completely automates migration sessions, with virtually no human intervention required
Increases productivity by automating redundant activities
Fast copy
Copies only allocated and modified tracks/cylinders on the source volume to the target volume
Speeds migrations and decreases costs
Full-speed copy
Allows use of two I/O buffers for volume migration, with overlapping read and write operations
Faster performance for times when speed counts the most
Active-in-Copy
Moves large amounts of data without setting up multiple small groups; limits the number of volumes in the copy phase without consideration to the size of the group
Minimizes the effect on the storage subsystem when migrating large databases or applications
What's New
Remote Agent Support. To improve the performance of Remote Agents the removal of the hardware Reserve/Release on the communications data set for agents that access the communication data set via a channel extender.
XRC Support (Remote Data Mover). Most XRC implementations are where the data mover component is located at the remote site. TDMF z/OS now supports the following migration scenarios where the data mover is local or remote:
Migration of source volumes that are XRC active to volumes that are XRC capable when the owning System Data Mover is on a Local or Remote Agent is now supported. Previously this was supported on the Master system only.
Migration of source volumes that are XRC active to volumes that are XRC active when the owning System Data Mover is on a Local or Remote Agent is now supported. Previously this was supported on the Master system only.
TCP/IP Improvements. TDMF z/OS is increasingly being used for long distance migrations. Recent engagements have highlighted the need for improvements to this feature in the following areas:
The capability to continue a TCP/IP migration in the event of a network failure.
Separate option in the monitor for TCP/IP migrations.
Additional statistical information in TDMF z/OS monitor to align with PIT TCP/IP migrations.
