By nature, all governments have to work with external agencies, institutions and individuals. In a complex world with high information accessibility, citizens and other stakeholders – especially in democratic settings – are demanding greater participation in how things are done. To accomplish their goals, government entities must find new ways to creatively collaborate beyond the borders of their own organizations. Historically, the private sector has been more frequently heralded for valuing innovation than the public sector. Yet, results of the Global CEO Study 2006 underscored many similarities between the private and public sectors when it comes to acknowledging the importance of being innovative.
