| Last updated: 31 Jan 2006 |
" The scalability and flexibility of the Applications on Demand platform is critical for our business model. IBM has consistently met its service level agreements and delivered excellent performance. " -Louw Kotze, vice president of IT, Skyworks Solutions, Inc. , 01Jan2006 |

Business need For manufacturers in the telecommuncations industry everything depends on maintaining an innovative edge. Agility and responsiveness are critical. Skyworks knew it needed to design its business and operations to be simple, flexible and streamlined to respond to changing market demands. As a newly formed company, Skyworks needed to establish a highly scalable, flexible IT environment. They knew they would have difficulty resourcing and funding multiple-shift support for their global operations. |
Solution Skyworks decided that a multipartner approach would be best. Corio, now part of IBM, was chosen for the management task, which entails the actual daily operations, tuning, administration and maintenance of Skyworks SAP enterprise suite, SAP BASIS middleware, Lotus Notes® and Domino®. Additionally, IBM provides capacity management and collaborative planning to help Skyworks handle aniticipated peaks in demand. Management services are delivered through the IBM Global Services OnSite offering, a part of Applications on Demand pay-as-you-go IT services. OnSite allows Skyworks to use their own third-party hosting provider or their own data center should they decide to bring support in-house. Several months of collaboration preceded the actual implementation - determining schedules and responsibility matrices. Making sure every component of the enterprise was addressed. |
Results Skyworks multipartner solution has produced 18% cost savings over the previous environment. It has allowed the company to apply the resources and expertise of its internal IT staff on highly strategic activities that directly impact the bottom line. According to Louw Kotze, vice president of IT, Skyworks, "The independent contracts have proven very beneficial for us. They've allowed us to remain true to our corporate vision of simplicity and have given us the edge we need to grow vigorously in a difficult economy." |
Benefits Total savings of 18% over previous solution Internal IT staff is more responsive and flexible in supporting business demands and strategic growth initiatives Skyworks can grow or change its business model freely, without being constrained by IT Access and availability of operational expertise, as well as SAP and management skills that would be too expensive to maintain in-house Variable pricing and offsite hosting optimize IT infrastructure and minimize capital expenditures
