A new Business Partner Type - Services Provider. This new Business Partner relationship will recognize Business Partners for their services delivery capabilities.
- Why a new Business Partner relationship?
This new relationship creates an opportunity for IBM and our Business partners to create a services team that can address customer requirements and generate new opportunities.
- Is this announcement worldwide?
Yes. The announcement and implementation of the Services Provider relationship will vary by geography, dependent upon available services.
- How does this fit into the overall IBM Global Services Strategy?
IBM Global Services recognizes the expertise that IBM Business Partners have in sales and services delivery, and we are committed to working together with them to achieve success.
- Who will be approved to be a Services Provider?
Services Providers will be approved and authorized by IBM to perform and deliver services based upon achievement of the firm, personnel and services offering qualifications criteria.
- Is a preexisting relationship with IBM required to be a Services Provider?
No, it is not necessary to have a preexisting relationship with IBM. This new Services Provider designation is independent of any existing sales or marketing relationship Business Partners have with IBM.
- If I have an existing Business Partner relationship with IBM, do I automatically qualify to become a Services Provider?
No. Business Partners must apply for the Services Provider relationship and achieve the required services offering, firm and personnel qualifications criteria.
- Is there a fee associated with becoming an IBM Services Provider?
No, there are no fees to become an IBM Business Partner -- Services Provider.
- What are the requirements to become a Services Provider?
Firms must achieve the required services offering, firm and personnel qualifications criteria to be approved as a Services Provider.
- What are qualified services personnel?
Individuals who possess the skills and/or capabilities, including education, certifications and hands-on working services knowledge, as required by the IBM approved services.
- What are IBM approved Services?
Services including capabilities, competencies, methodologies and packaged offerings that Services Providers will be approved to deliver.
- We have tools virtually identical to those demonstrated by IBM. How do we keep our own intellectual property separate from IBM's?
You should not provide any information to IBM that you do not want to share. IBM does not want to view any of your intellectual property. Participation in any forums, discussion groups or other "open" information-sharing opportunities that might be offered within the scope of the program will be at the program participants risk. You should not provide information regarded to be proprietary or confidential while participating in any aspects of the IBM offering. In the same respect, if you license IBM's tools, you will be obligated to take reasonable precaution to protect IBM's intellectual property.
- Who develops these Services?
Services include IBM developed and branded services, IBM developed and non-branded services, or non-IBM developed services.
- What Services are currently available?
North America - IBM Services Delivery Kit for OV/400 to Lotus Domino Japan - AS/400 Maintenance (to be transitioned), Point Of Sale Maintenance (to be transitioned), SMB - GUI Pack Customization (Pilot) EMEA - ERP Services (Planned Pilot for 3Q99)
- What is a Services Delivery Kit (SDK)?
A Services Delivery Kit is a set of IBM Services methodologies and materials, and the related IBM technical support, for the development and delivery of Services to end users. Additionally, we may provide training and access to an electronic "Engagement Guidebook" which may include market research, white papers, marketing collateral, best practices, statements of work, perform guidance and end-to-end Engagement tips and techniques associated with the service offering.
- How will Services Providers be engaged by IBM?
Services Providers are responsible for generating the majority of demand and leads for your services via your traditional marketing efforts. Additionally, Services Providers may be engaged to perform and deliver services with IBM intellectual capital, on leads passed by IBM, and as a delivery partner with IBM.
- How will services leads be passed to Services Providers?
Services leads will be passed to Services Providers equitably based upon their ability to provide the required skills, services and geographic coverage.
- Will services providers have exclusive territories where they do not compete with other services providers in the same geography?
No, however, if you have multiple locations and those locations qualify for the program, you can expand your reach nationally.
- If I am an authorized Services Provider will I also be qualified as a supplier?

- Will I be forced to subtier through the National Technical Services suppliers?
The services required as a supplier to an IBM Services Provider Program offering are not intended to be skill-based, therefore IBM would contract with you directly as a supplier.
