IBM is launching the OV/400 400 to Lotus Domino Services Delivery Kit. The North American opportunity exceeds US$50 million over the next three years for customers in small and medium businesses seeking coexistence and migration to Lotus Domino with their current OV/400 messaging application. IBM Business Partner participants have an opportunity to participate in this growth opportunity by utilizing the IBM Services Delivery Kit.

This Services Delivery Kit will enable you to position and sell this solution, supported by IBM methodologies. You will be able to plan, design and implement an effective collaboration and messaging solution for your customers. As an approved Services Provider, you will be able to perform all the services associated with the program.

OV/400 to Lotus Domino Engagement Guidebook 

  • IBM Migration from OV/400 to Lotus Notes for the AS/400
  • IBM SmoothStart for Lotus Domino for AS/400
  • Installation Services for tools needed to support the customer requirement, such as:
    • IBM Native Migration Tool
    • Lotus Calendar Connector for OV
    • BNDW for AS/400 from Typex, Inc. (optional) (Formerly known as Blue Notes)
    • Evergreen 400 from Inventive Designers n.v. (optional)
  • Support for Lotus Notes Client 
  • Migration Services as required

By utilizing the information in the Services Delivery Kit you will be prepared to:

  • Conduct a customer planning session to create a blueprint for migration to Lotus Notes for the AS/400
  • Develop a Notes/Domino environment design
  • Install tools as needed: IBM Migration Tool, Lotus Calendar Connector for OV (LCCOV).
  • Import an AS/400 DB2/400 database into Lotus Notes
  • Register an exit program to import data from Lotus Notes to DB2/400 database
  • Install BNDW (creates an index of documents located in the AS/400 system library and allows viewing from a Notes client)
  • Install Evergreen 400 (IBM 5250 screen emulator)
  • Perform the post-install test as specified in the test plan
  • Provide basic skills instruction for your customers' technical personnel
  • Develop a roll-out plan to implement Lotus Domino
  • Deploy Lotus Domino in the customer environment
  • Provide basic Notes end-user education training plan.

Business Partner Qualification Prerequisites for the Program

Business Fundamentals Required

  • Be an approved IBM Services Provider (new BP-type)
  • Demonstrate a Business Model that supports a strong commitment to IBM products and services
  • Exhibit strong services capabilities focused on IBM technologies and e-business solutions
  • Willing to develop a joint business plan including investment requirements, head count, revenue objectives and measurement criteria
  • Have proven customer satisfaction ratings or two customer references where you've demonstrated the skills listed below

    IBM estimates a North American services opportunity of over $100 million over the next 3 years. IBM expects IBM Business Partners to capture more than half of this market in small and medium businesses seeking coexistence and migration solutions with Lotus Domino from their current OV/400 messaging application.

    This is a channel-ready offering from IBM that shares the knowledge and know-how of IBM's Subject Matter Experts for how to sell, scope and perform an OV/400 to Lotus Domino service. It is backed by IBM with packaged intellectual property/methodologies, presales support, technical support, training and demand generation that enables our Services Providers to effectively capture revenue, marketshare and profit by assisting their AS/400 customers migrate from OV/400 to the powerful Lotus Domino on the AS/400.

  3. Why will my customers be interested in this offering?
    As a result of IBM's end of life announcement for OV/400 (see Withdrawal Announcement 999-031 dated 2/9/99), customers now have a compelling reason to make a decision about what they need to do with their OV/400 mail systems. IBM has refocused its OV/400 resource investments on delivering Domino on the AS/400 and enabling customers to create an environment that positions them to exploit available and future technological advancements such as the Internet and e-business.

  4. What will I be able to offer my customer?
    You will help the customer reduce their risk and increase customer satisfaction by providing an efficient, streamlined, methodical approach to planning, architecting and implementing an effective collaboration and messaging solution with Domino on the AS/400.

  5. What tools are available to support this effort?
    As of April 6th, 1999, IBM announced the newly enhanced IBM OfficeVision to Lotus Notes Migration Tools for AS/400 Version 2 along with complementary solutions from Typex (Software) Ltd. and Inventive Designers. The Migration Tools enable customers to move their OV/400 users' mail, calendar, and document management data smoothly into Lotus Notes, exploiting Lotus Domino for AS/400. (Announcement Letter 299-085)

  6. How do we handle 3rd party products like Evergreen and Blue Notes?
    IBM Software group intends to package these software tools as IBM part numbers to provide an easy way to order this software for your customers. It is also IBM's intent to provide Level 1 and 2 software support for these products. Refer to the Software Announcement Letter 299-085 dated April 6, 1999.

  8. What is the content of this Engagement Guidebook?
    The Service Delivery Kit (SDK) for OfficeVision/400 to Lotus Domino Engagement Guidebook is a compilation of information and "best practice" experience from various IBM, Lotus, and third party sources and is delivered through the PartnerInfo web site to assist service providers in performing OfficeVision/400 to Lotus Domino migration/coexistence services. The information in the SDK includes white papers, brochures, methodology, program information, related web sites, and other useful information for performing these services. The information in the SDK is presented in various sections.

    The first section in the SDK is entitled Selling Notes and Domino and will be the typical starting point for a migration opportunity. The section provides marketing information to help understand the value of Domino/Notes and position the product to a potential customer. The section includes brochures, white papers, spec sheets, competitive information, feature lists and other documents that can be used to present Domino as the best mail system for current OV/400 customers.

    The second section, called Domino for the AS/400 provides a Domino for AS/400 spec sheet as well as a link to the AS/400 sizing tool. The sizing tool is an online tool which can be used to determine the AS/400 configuration required for a particular customer based on the number and type of mail users. The document also includes a paper by George Gaylord, IBM Senior Technical e-business Server Specialist, outlining considerations for putting Domino on an existing AS/400 or buying a new and additional system.

    A section on Education and Training has been provided to describe the skills required for performing the migration. The section also includes information on IBM's web-delivered education offering for training end users on using Notes.

    Performance Guidance is the fourth section in the SDK. This section begins by providing an engagement roadmap describing the various activities associated with delivering a migration project. The Performance Guidance section also provides information on Opportunity Qualification including a qualification checklist, Infrastructure Assessment, Solution Design, Costing Guidance, and Project Management. We have also included a document providing additional guidance on for using the Domino Migration Engine for AS/400 (DME/400), Lotus Calendar Connector for OfficeVision (LCCOV/400) and AS/400 directory synchronization to successfully migrate OV/400 users to Notes and Domino on AS/400.

    In addition to these sections, the SDK provides information on the migration tools, IBM and third party, Support Programs, and licensing information.

  9. What platform is this offering based on?
    This offering and its engagement guidebook covers only the AS/400 platform.

  10. What type of training is available for the Services Delivery Kit - OV/400 to Lotus Domino? IBM will host a 3 days tools training class that is a prerequisite to qualifying for the Services Delivery Kit - OV/400 to Lotus Domino offering.   11. What is the compensation to IBM for the SDK- OV/400 to Lotus Domino? The Services Provider will compensate IBM a royalty percentage of all gross receipts received by the Services Provider in conjunction with the delivery of services associated with the OV/400 to Lotus Domino service.

  12. What will be the reporting/audit process? You will self-report the gross receipts and royalty amounts owed to IBM. IBM would reserve the right to conduct an audit covering the elements of any agreement signed by both you and IBM.
