After you buy the service, detailed configuration guides will be sent to you to help you with the setup process. The technical checklists below are intended to help you identify who the right technical contacts are within your organization and to provide some insight as to what will be required of them for setup.
Network administrator
- Do you have a firewall in place?
- If yes, who administers the firewall?
This person will have to restrict port 25 simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) traffic via the firewall, so that messages are accepted only from the appropriate servers.
E-mail administrator
- Who administers the e-mail server?
If there is no firewall, this person will have to restrict port 25 (SMTP) traffic via the firewall, so that messages are accepted only from the appropriate servers.
This person will also be required to configure the organizations SMTP server to send outbound e-mail via the default mail route that points to a specified server.
- Do you wish to keep the service banner on e-mail? If no, remember to disable before DNS server configuration.
- Should users receive alerts for virus, detection, mail size restrictions, inappropriate material alerts, etc.? If no, disable via the Insight tool before DNS configuration.
DNS administrator
- Who is responsible for DNS Server or MX (Mail eXchange) Record Configuration?
- What is the current MX Primary?
- What is the current MX Secondary?
This person will be required to change the MX Primary and MX Secondary to specified IBM Express Managed Security Services for e-mail security servers.

Other services required to complete a total security solution are available from IBM but are not included under this offering. Registered domain required. Minimum order is 25 addresses at a per address price of $2.00.
