Improving coalition collaboration
The pervasive and increasingly complex nature of coalition operations means that all nations will need to improve how they interface with their partners. Many coalition operations perform below expectations because of a collaboration gap – a mismatch between the demands of the mission and the combined capabilities of the coalition members.
Defense forces can help close this gap and improve coalition performance by enhancing collaborative ways of working, sharing information and exploiting technology.
To accomplish this, however, they will need to commit to long-term, fundamental changes in how they operate. Continuous improvement will depend upon building a deeper understanding of collaboration performance, implementing solutions to build collaboration capabilities and making improvements in coalition planning and leadership development.
