In April 2009, IBM introduced the Business Analytics and Optimization (BAO) service line dedicated to helping clients make more intelligent and fact-based decisions through the art and science of business analytics. The first new service line created in more than six years, it underscores the serious investment being made to this emergent market opportunity and reflects our ongoing commitment to help clients and the world to work smarter.
Driven by the need for a new level of enterprise intelligence, clients are looking to us to not only manage the ever-growing complexity, volume and variety of information, but connect the information in such a way that it gives them greater precision and predictability. In effect, clients are saying they need the facts before they act. They need to know the outcomes and trade-offs before they place their bet. With IBM BAO services, we are helping clients make fact-driven decisions, plot trends, predict risks and take actions, with the predicted degrees of success they need.
By bringing together the unique elements of IBM Information Management platforms, the advanced analytics of IBM Research, our leading-edge hardware platforms, and IBM consulting expertise, under one, unified service line, IBM is able to offer clients a distinct capability unmatched in the marketplace. Most importantly, the use of Business Analytics and Optimization can close the gab between strategy and execution by helping discover predictive insights that translate into operational readiness and real market advantage.
