Application Innovation Services (AIS) has a single mission: to help IBM clients innovate and grow through custom application development and integration services. Our practitioners apply their knowledge in such areas as wireless and mobile technologies, leading-edge, Web-based application development, enterprise integration, portal development and exploitation, security and privacy services, brand strategy development and execution and education offerings. We design and build applications working with technologies such as distributed data bases, Java™/J2EE, object-oriented programming and IBM Lotus® Notes®.

• Service oriented architecture (SOA) — help our clients develop an end-to-end set of capabilities to design, implement and manage a security-enhanced architecture for their business processes and Web services. Enable clients to better align their IT systems with business goals, offer new revenue-generating capabilities, spend less time managing applications and services, enable reallocation of resources for strategic initiatives, reduce costs and become an On Demand Business.
• Legacy transformation — help enterprises glean more value from their existing legacy applications, implement new business processes and realize higher returns from their application investments. Offerings span the full spectrum of application services, including consolidation and migration, application integration, Web enablement, application renovation and specialized core services for banking, insurance and retail industry clients.
• Application portfolio services — offer a full range of application development, maintenance, support and related services for a client's portfolio of applications. May include application implementation and integration, application management, end-user support, portfolio planning and management application architecture management, software infrastructure management and complex project management.
• Custom application services — provide application outsourcing services for a limited number of high-cost or critical client applications, enabling higher service levels and lower costs than generally possible with in-house staff. Available for either e-business or traditional applications, this could include minor enhancements or development projects for outsourced applications as part of, or a follow-on to, an IBM custom application development and implementation contract, or where the application was developed by a third party or the client.
• Application management resource services — enable clients to lower the cost and manage the supply of application development and maintenance resources. We provide supplemental staff to meet the changing demands of business, as well as manage existing subcontractors to realize increased business value.
• Application management advisory services — help clients identify ways to improve and extend application development and maintenance delivery capabilities, by understanding their current capabilities, determining how to improve value of the application services they provide, and helping them transform their environment into a more effective organization.
