Make the most of your images.

Software images are stored copies of ready-to-use servers that the IBM SmartCloud uses to build new servers for you. They are created by taking a snapshot of a running server. To take full advantage of the cloud, you and your team will likely want to create images of cloud servers you have customised to fit your needs.

Getting started

To help you get started, IBM has built and maintains two kinds of public software images that you can use to build servers:

Each of these public images may serve as a starting point for building customised servers—private images visible only to you and selected team members, with unique settings and additional software incorporated.

Operating system images

You also have the option of importing Linux images. There are tools available in the cloud to build images from operating systems and software bundles.
