In this solution, backup of your operational data is initiated automatically in the background of your production environment at the point in time you designate in your data management policy. You can create one centralised repository for all operational backups - either on your premises or at an IBM recovery center. For data recovery, the trucking of physical media is replaced with efficient, online transmission over a point-to-point link or Web-based virtual private network (VPN). Your applications and application data are stored on a server at the IBM center.

The electronic data management solution provides a choice of deployment options, so nearly every organisation - from large enterprises to small and midsize businesses - can have an affordable and effective solution that meets its data management requirements. The available options include a dedicated model and a shared model. For companies with one-half to approximately two terabytes of data to protect, the shared model significantly reduces solution costs yet still retains the same security-rich backup and retrieval capabilities of the dedicated deployment option.
