i
Business need
Vienna Insurance Group needed a more flexible, cost-effective way to manage its increasingly expensive IT environment.
i
Key challenges
To support expansion efforts, Wiener Stadtische had shifted from a mainframe environment to a midrange, SAP-based IT environment. In the process, however, the IT budget became untenably high.
i
Solution
The European insurance giant signed a full-scope outsourcing contract with IBM Global Services to handle all IT, including data centers and full application portfolio support. An IBM-hosted environment was established, located in Milan, Italy and based on IBM's Universal Management Infrastructure. IBM Global Services - Application Management Services is supporting a full application software portfolio, including SAP. IBM also consolidated the company’s midrange servers, incorporating two IBM eServer pSeries 690 servers, two IBM eServer pSeries 650 servers and approximately 200 Microsoft Windows NT servers.
i
Results
Vienna Insurance Group’s enhanced application architecture resulted in IT cost savings expected at 20 percent over seven years. With the flexible, cost-effective solution, the insurer can use its resources more effectively, concentrating on its core business. The outsourced agreement accommodates unpredictable requirements as the company grows. Now managers are able to focus their efforts on one of the company's primary objectives: expanding its operations throughout the Central and Eastern Europe region.
