With the help of IBM iX, Newell sought to achieve an incremental USD 1 billion in revenue in five years.

In Newell’s journey away from a brand holding company model, they were operating ecommerce in silos with small, untrained teams. Newell needed to think and act like an expert e-retailer to drive performance across five core categories and dozens of brands. Digital-fueled brand relationships drove new, innovative shopping experiences.

A new roadmap, designed to transform Newell’s position in the market and minds of consumers, was created to maximize product availability, focus on performance and explore long-term opportunities. IBM iX audited the current shopping journey, then prioritized and activated a series of high-impact, ROI-conscious initiatives to achieve quick wins and create momentum. The growth strategy prioritized a “retailer readiness” approach by partnering directly with key retail partners to test and launch improved consumer experiences.

Impact

An ambitious reinvention pays off

Phase one of this ecommerce reinvention is driving big sales lifts. Newell’s growth rate has doubled in the first year and is on track to meet or exceed ambitious incremental revenue targets by 2020 as they extend their capabilities across their categories and around the world.
