Traditional server environments pose several challenges: high labor and capital costs, long development and deployment cycles and quality risks associated with largely manual processes. Organizations are now finding new ways to meet these challenges using cloud computing from IBM.
IBM SmartCloud Enterprise is an agile cloud infrastructure designed to provide rapid access to security-rich, enterprise-class virtual server environments, well suited for development and test activities and other dynamic workloads. Ideal for both IT and application development teams, the IBM SmartCloud delivers cloud-based services, systems and software to meet the needs of your business.
IBM SmartCloud Enterprise is an infrastructure as a service (IaaS) cloud solution that offers:
-
Rapid access to configurable server environments to speed time to market [ more details ]
The IBM SmartCloud is designed to enable rapid access to virtual machines, with selectable operating systems, options for attachable persistent storage and customizable software resources. No up-front capital investment is needed, and you can provision in minutes instead of the weeks a traditional environment requires.[ hide ]

Self-service Web portal for enterprise account management [ more details ]
The self-service portal is designed to be easy to use and to deliver account management capabilities required by an enterprise. The portal quickly guides you through the setup of your environment and serves as the console for triggering the automated provisioning of your servers. After your account has been created, your account administrator can assign and manage the end user IDs as well as monitor their activities, including the instances and images being used. Reporting capabilities also help your administrator track usage and predict costs. [ hide ]

Pay-as-you-go pricing, with the choice of preferred pricing through reserved capacity packages [ more details ]
You can select the payment option that best helps you to manage costs and capacity across your enterprise. You pay as you go, with or without reserved capacity. Without a reservation, you pay only for what you provision. With a reservation, you have access to a pool of virtual machine resources and receive preferred pricing with discounted usage rates, for a monthly fee.
With a reserved capacity pool, you can freely provision and de-provision as required within pool size limits for 6 or 12 months. The smallest pool has 64 CPUs, 96 GB memory and 9.6 TB of storage. Larger pools may be ordered in units of this small package.
Billing is designed to be simple. See our price list that includes charges for various service options. You receive a monthly bill, similar to that of a utility provider, based on your usage and options selected. You can use our monthly cost estimator tool to help you create a monthly budget for your intended use of the IBM SmartCloud. [ hide ]

Security-rich environment designed to protect your systems and data [ more details ]
We designed the IBM SmartCloud with enterprise security as a top priority. Access to the infrastructure self-service portal and application programming interface (API) is restricted to users with an IBM Web Identity. The infrastructure complies with IBM security policies, including regular security scans and controlled administrative actions and operations. Within our delivery centers, customer data and virtual machines are kept in the data center where provisioned, and the physical security is the same as that for IBM’s own internal data centers.
Our virtual private network (VPN) option lets you isolate your servers in the IBM SmartCloud on a virtual local area network (VLAN) that can act as an extension of your internal network. This VPN capability can also be used to create security zones in an Internet-facing configuration to better protect your servers against attacks. [ hide ]
