Case study Company name: Nexen, Inc.
| Last updated: 20 Mar 2004 |
IBM Business Consulting Services evaluated and provided a roadmap for SAP optimization for Nexen, Inc., a global energy company, in preparation for expanding SAP modules and coverage. |

Business need Nexen, Inc. implemented SAP R3 and BW (business information warehouse) approximately two years ago. Following the implementation, the company had some performance issues. At the same time, Nexen was planning to expand R3 and BW into its Chemicals Division. Management decided to evaluate the system and its tools and obtain guidance on how the company could better leverage its investments in the SAP software suite. |
Key challenges Nexen's specific goals were focused on providing a more simple information delivery environment that would better meet the users' needs while also reducing the demands on the support team. The simplification is critical to Nexen as it grows the overall solution set to meet new and evolving demands from the business. |
Solution IBM Business Consulting Services was chosen to evaluate the existing issues and current reporting architecture. The team leveraged IBM's information delivery architecture and strategy methodology along with IBM's deep SAP BW experience to provide Nexen with a set of recommendations and a project roadmap to address its needs. |
Results Nexen can now simplify its current solution set through a new role-based approach to information delivery, change management and end-user support. Nexen has a better understanding of how to deploy new product features and architecture components to address performance issues and provide more flexibility in the future as its information needs grow and evolve. |
