Last year, we identified the “smarter” consumer as someone who was interconnected, was able to access information in multiple places as well as at every point in the shopping process. They were instrumented with mobile phones, had internet access on multiple devices, were intelligent and had the ability to access and act on endless amounts of data, in real time.

Now in its third year, the IBM Smarter Consumer Study surveyed more than 28,000 consumers in 15 countries, including over 1,800 from Australia. ‘Smarter Consumers’ have become ‘Empowered Consumers’ thanks to the rapid adoption and use of technology. In this report, we present global consumer trends with a focus on the Australian consumer, including their shopping habits, who influences them, what technologies they are willing to use and how best to reach them with your brand messages.
