IT Facilities Assessment, Design and Construction Services - high density zone

IBM IT Facilities Assessment, Design and Construction Services - high density zone enables you to quickly deploy high density equipment in existing data centers in less time and at lower cost than traditional data center retrofits.

Like most organizations, your data centers were built before 2001 and were not designed to accommodate the heat densities and power requirements of today's high density computing devices-which are growing by twenty times this decade. You also can't afford the cost, complexity and disruption to your 7 x 24 operations to retrofit your existing data center to accommodate this new technology. IBM IT Facilities Assessment, Design and Construction Services - high density zone enables you to quickly deploy high density equipment in existing data centers in less time and at lower cost than traditional data center retrofits.

Addressing challenges of high density servers

During the last decade, major changes have significantly impacted data center operations. Demand for information technology continues to grow, with analysts predicting that server shipments will grow by six times during this decade. And by 2010, it's predicted that one in four servers will be blade servers. The power densities of these new, high density devices have increased by more than twenty times during this decade-growing from one kilowatt per rack to over twenty kilowatts per rack by the end of the decade.

This increasing demand for power has caused data centers to be at a tipping point. Almost eighty percent of existing data centers around the world were built before 2001, which means they probably have insufficient power and cooling capacity to meet the requirements of these newer technologies. And now, with one-third of data centers required to have a 30-year useful life, data center owners are compelled to explore innovative approaches to support new technologies and new business growth.

IBM IT Facilities Assessment, Design and Construction Services - high density zone allows you to support higher density servers in your existing data center while quickly implementing an integrated, energy-efficient solution. Providing a "plug and play," modular racking architecture that incorporates self-contained cooling and power infrastructure solutions, the high density zone can be smoothly installed in a nondisruptive fashion-and at lower cost than a site retrofit.
